The Vanderbilt Epidemiology Center supports three core facilities related to the conduct of epidemiological studies.
Survey Research Shared Resource
The Survey Research Shared Resource is led by Dr. Martha Shrubsole and provides support for phone interview-based collection of information from study subjects. The Survey Research Shared Resource provides services to Vanderbilt investigators related to development and implementation of mail, telephone, web and mixed mode surveys. Services provided include the following:
-Survey instrument development
-Project planning and management
-Interviewer training and certification
-Digital recording of telephone surveys
-Editing and coding
-Study related mailings
-Tracing and locating
At this time, the SRSR can only consider accepting projects with a minimum of 250 surveys per year. For projects smaller than 250 per year, the SRSR can provide consultation services to your research team. Study consultations are available to discuss the needs of your project. For further information, please contact John White at SRSR@vanderbilt.edu.

Molecular Epidemiology Laboratory
The Molecular Epidemiology Laboratory is led by Dr. Qiuyin Cai and provides genotyping and other lab services for large-scale studies. The Molecular Epidemiology Laboratory provides services to Vanderbilt investigators related to biological specimen collection and storage, as well as biomarker and genetic marker assays. Services provided include the following:
-Biological sample processing
-Biological sample banking
-Biological sample aliquoting
-Biological sample collection kits
-DNA/RNA sample banking
-Gene expression analysis
-Protocol development for biological sample collection and storage, genotyping, and biomarker assays
-Other services that support molecular epidemiological studies
Study consultations are available to discuss the needs of your project. For further information, please contact Dr. Qiuyin Cai at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Epidemiology Statistical Core
The Epidemiology Statistical Core is led by Dr. Wanqing Wen and provides support for management of the complex data sets produced by large-scale studies. The Epidemiology Statistical core provides general statistical support for the research efforts of VEC investigators and undertakes data management and data analyses for ongoing epidemiology projects. The primary data analysis tools are SAS, Stata, R, and statistical genetics packages such as PHASE and HAPSTAT.
Study consultations are available to discuss the needs of your project. For further information, please contact Dr. Wanqing Wen at email@example.com.
